Yasukuni Shrine is famous for being the shrine to all of Japan’s war-dead (even some war-dead that are not remembered too fondly). The overwhelming majority of souls that have come to rest at this shrine are normal people who fought and died. To guide their spirits home 30,000 lanterns are lit up along the pathway. There are also shrine floats that are paraded around the area.
