This weekend I got to see a production of Avenue Q by the Tokyo International Players!
I am largely unaware of the foreign theater scene in Tokyo, but if any of you have interest in theater and understand English ( a sort of prerequisite for reading this blog) you should definitely check them out. I had seen the original Ave. Q Broadway cast perform the musical, and I can tell you that the performance rivaled what I had seen. For a troupe made of volunteers, they are extremely professional.
Avenue Q is over but there will be a new play out in December. The next play scheduled is “Night Must Fall.” I have been told that it is “a suspense thriller, that has murder, intrigue, and some jokes.” (quote from a friend that will be in it)

In other Tokyo theater news, an independent documentary just started this week called 「ハーフ」. Not sure if everyone knows what a “half” is, but for clarification it is a term that refers to a Japanese person who is 1/2 non-Japanese (Like Korean-Japanese, Ghana-ian Japanese, etc). It seems like it’ll be interesting hearing people’s stories and also thinking about what the increasing population of mixed-race people will do for a homogeneous society like Japan.
Speaking of movies…End of this month is also Tokyo International Film Festival!

Check it out! This is the time to gorge yourself on a succession of foreign films. I am looking forward to the Indian film about a man that comes back to live as a fly and gets his revenge on the men who killed him.
If you know of anything else fun happening please share!
