Big Buddha Ranking

Despite being a country that is famed for being small and cramped, Japanese people love ranking big/tall things. Buddhas are not exception to this rule.

The most popular Buddhas in Japan is the Buddha in Todaiji Temple (Nara, Nara Pref.) and the Buddha in Kotokuin ( Kamakura, Kanagawa Pref. ). These Buddhas are definitely larger than your average statue, but the largest Buddha in Japan is relatively unknown to even the Japanese.

The Buddha statue in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture is one of the largest statues in the world ( 120 meters/ 394 feet tall ).

Worth checking out if you are Buddhist or enjoy learning about Pure Land Buddhism.
Below is a list of Buddhas that I’ve seen/know about….If you know of any more worth note please comment.
