7 Unusual Tokyo Cafes

Everyone knows about the cute cat cafes and the moe maid cafes, but here are a few Tokyo cafes that are trying to be something completely…unique. Here are 7 that stood out to me:

 

1. Have a Sip, Take a Soak….It’s the Ofuro Cafe Utanene!

ABOUT: It is a cafe where you can lounge around, read manga, get a massage in a massage chair, and soak in a bath (you can bring a book to the bath area, if it is your own).

RATES:

1 hour – 500 yen
2 hours – 840 yen
Free time – 1,260 yen

Staying between the hours of 2:00 am to 5:00 am is an extra 840 yen.

Morning bath (5:00 am to 9:00 am) is 500 yen.

The actual place is only closed from the hours of 9:00 am to 10:00 am!
Only one hour!

(If you wanted to, you could just wait outside the doors for that hour and come back in)

LOCATION: 12 minute walk from the Tetsudo Hakubutsukan Station on the New Shuttle Line in Omiya, Saitama.

 

 

2. A place where you can join up with like-minded individuals for the ultimate dream….manga artist cafe, Manga Kukan!

ABOUT: 10,000 books at your disposable, drawing desks and computers with pen tablets loaded with Photoshop and Manga Studio.

NOTE: You may bump into me here. I will be the foreign girl. If you correctly recognize me and are a reader of this site, I will buy you a drink.

RATES: 600 yen for one hour w/drink included. 6 hours is 2,000 yen. If you want to use the computer to work you must par 100-200 yen more based on the time you stay.

It costs 2,500- to attend a lecture.

LOCATION: 1 minute walk from JR Koenji Station.

 

 

3. Taste the Japanese childhood you never had…(that came out wrong) School Lunch Cafe, Kyushoku Toban!

ABOUT: When you are a kid, you take school lunch for granted. When you are an adult, I guess you might want to go looking for it. They have all sorts of different lunches that are served up with a side of nostalgia.

RATES: No table charge. Food is 350-1500 yen range.

LOCATION: 8 minute walk from JR Okachimachi and right next to Shin Okachimachi on the Oedo Line.

 

 

 

4. The ultimate people-watching experience…..The cafe that is smack dab in the middle of some of the world’s busiest train tracks, N331.

RATES: No table charge. Menu items are in the 400-900  yen range. There isn’t much food there, mostly drinks and light snacks.

LOCATION: 6 min walk from JR Kanda Station

 

 

5. How do you feel about this? Because I’m not sure I’m okay with this but anyway….the fake gay cafe, Miracle Jump. BTW, IT IS CLOSING APRIL 14th! GO NOW OR FOREVER HAVE TO FANTASIZE ABOUT MEN ACTING GAY  IN A CAFE SETTING.

RATES: No table charge. Menu items are in the 600-55,801(!!!!!)  yen range. There isn’t much food there, mostly drinks. I wonder why they are going out of business….

LOCATION: 3 min walk from JR Suehirocho Station

 

 

6. Keeping with the man theme……Foreign guy cafe, Butler’s Cafe.

ABOUT: Meet real foreign men! Meet them dressed up in butler clothes.

RATES: No table charge. Menu items are in the 850-2,200 yen range. There are meal options as well as drinks and cake.

LOCATION: 7 min walk from JR Shibuya Station

 

 

 

7. What is a cafe without goats??!……cafe with goats, Sakuragaoka Cafe.

ABOUT: Goats! And antique furniture that gives the cafe a very chic look.

RATES: No table charge. Menu items are in the 500-1,200 yen range. The menu has a pretty wide variety of Western foods available.

LOCATION: 4 min walk from JR Shibuya Station
