Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the 3.11 Tohoku Earthquake.
3 years ago over 15,000 people lost their lives.
I drew the Miracle Pine today because it is a symbol of hope for the future, but it is surrounded by the emptiness of what was lost.
Some people displaced from the disaster have still not found a way home. Consider donating to help:
I was actually in Japan for the earthquake, but I was not in the Tohoku area. I lived in Gunma prefecture at the time, which actually borders Fukushima (but on the wrong side for the reactor). Gunma prefecture touches Fukushima on the inland side and post 3.11 had some problems with radiation being a tad above government regulation levels on its spinach crop.
People stopped buying spinach. I took the opportunity to eat ALL the cheap spinach at that time..haha.
I have not been up to the Tohoku area at all. Partially because of time and partially because my mother was afraid of me going up there. My father died of cancer this year and she is a bit sensitive about anything that raises cancer risks.
I’m going to try to make it up there this year though. I’ll do it to urge other people to come up and enjoy the area
