In Hiroshima Prefecture lies an island almost entirely populated by rabbits.
Why isn’t this place more popular? Why is it not more talked about?
I really couldn’t tell you, because it is awesome.
Personal opinion aside, I think it might be because of the island’s WW2 history.
Okunoshima was home to a poison gas factory. This poison gas that was used in Manchuria, and also often escaped during production; injuring the Japanese workers that were exposed to it.
Nowadays, the gas is gone and the island is abound with fluffy bunnies. There is a hotel on the island that sells rabbit food, has a restaurant, and overnight facilities. http://www.qkamura.or.jp/en/ohkuno/
I put a map at the bottom of the page so that you can go check it out. I would recommend going to Mihara station in Okayama, taking the train to Tadanoumi and then walking over to the ferry dock. Be warned that this is in the middle of nowhere and missing the train could cost you an hour (we didn’t make the train from Tadanoumi and had to wait around for an hour or so…).
